The Game
After getting behind early in the first quarter, Cleveland State posted a mini 5-3 run over the final 22 seconds of the frame to put the score at 22-16 Richmond after the first 10 minutes of action. The Vikings were then able to keep the contest close over the opening minutes of the second quarter, until a Khayla Livingston three-pointer tied the contest at 26-26 with 4:44 left on the clock. The two teams then traded baskets throughout the rest of the frame, as both teams went into the lockerroom with the score knotted at 33-33.

Both teams traded baskets throughout the opening part of the second half then, until back-to-back layups from Nicolete Newman and Shadae Bosley gave Cleveland State a 45-43 advantage with 1:59 left in the frame. The Vikings were then able to hold the lead for the rest of the frame, and closed the quarter with a 49-47 advantage after a pair of converted free throws from Jade Ely.

Cleveland State continued its momentum through the start of the fourth quarter then, as the Vikings opened the frame on a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 55-47. After holding Richmond off the board for the first two minutes of the quarter, the Spiders responded with a 7-0 run of their own to come within one point at 55-54 with just over six minutes left in the contest.

The Vikings were then able to go on another scoring run ending at the 4:46 mark, gaining a 62-54 advantage after seven straight points from Ashanti Abshaw and Newman. Cleveland State then controlled play for the remainder of the game, holding at least a four-point lead for the rest of the contest, coming away with the 69-65 victory.
