Abshaw Tallies 30 Points As Vikings Defeat Richmond, 69-65
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Behind a 30-point performance from redshirt sophomore Ashanti Abshaw, the Cleveland State women's basketball team wrapped up play at the Navy Classic with a 69-65 victory over Richmond Sunday afternoon. After the win, the Vikings now stand at 3-4 this season.

Game Stats
· Ashanti Abshaw led the Viking offense with a game-high 30-points, while Khayla Livingston added 11 points for the Vikings.
· Olivia Voskuhl grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, while Khayla Livingston notched six boards and Ashanti Abshaw recorded five.
· Khayla Livingston dished out seven assists on the game.
· Nicolete Newman grabbed a team-best four steals, while Mariah Miller recorded one steal.
· As a team, the Vikings shot 51-percent from the floor (24-for-47) and 46-percent from three-point (6-for-13).
· Cleveland State recorded 32 of its 69 points in the paint against the Spiders.

Game Notes
· Cleveland State used a new starting lineup for the first time this season, as Nicolete Newman, Ashanti Abshaw, Sierra Davidson, Khayla Livingston, and Mariah Miller started the game for the Vikings.
· Sierra Davidson and Mariah Miller both picked up the first start of their collegiate careers.
· Sunday's game marked the first meeting between the Vikings and the Spiders.
· Ashanti Abshaw recorded back-to-back 20-point games at the Navy Classic, with a 20-point performance against Navy and a 30-point effort against Richmond. The 30-point game marked just the second of her career.
· Khayla Livingston tied her career-high with her seven assists against Richmond.
· Sierra Davidson tied her career-high with four points against Richmond in her first career start.
· The Vikings had their best shooting performance of the season against the Spiders, as they shot 51-percent from the field (24-for-47) and 46-percent from behind-the-arc (6-for-13).

The Game
After getting behind early in the first quarter, Cleveland State posted a mini 5-3 run over the final 22 seconds of the frame to put the score at 22-16 Richmond after the first 10 minutes of action. The Vikings were then able to keep the contest close over the opening minutes of the second quarter, until a Khayla Livingston three-pointer tied the contest at 26-26 with 4:44 left on the clock. The two teams then traded baskets throughout the rest of the frame, as both teams went into the lockerroom with the score knotted at 33-33.

Both teams traded baskets throughout the opening part of the second half then, until back-to-back layups from Nicolete Newman and Shadae Bosley gave Cleveland State a 45-43 advantage with 1:59 left in the frame. The Vikings were then able to hold the lead for the rest of the frame, and closed the quarter with a 49-47 advantage after a pair of converted free throws from Jade Ely.

Cleveland State continued its momentum through the start of the fourth quarter then, as the Vikings opened the frame on a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 55-47. After holding Richmond off the board for the first two minutes of the quarter, the Spiders responded with a 7-0 run of their own to come within one point at 55-54 with just over six minutes left in the contest.

The Vikings were then able to go on another scoring run ending at the 4:46 mark, gaining a 62-54 advantage after seven straight points from Ashanti Abshaw and Newman. Cleveland State then controlled play for the remainder of the game, holding at least a four-point lead for the rest of the contest, coming away with the 69-65 victory.
