CSU Women’s Basketball Mourns The Loss Of Former Player Destinee Blue

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Former Cleveland State women's basketball player Destinee Blue passed away Saturday evening in a tragic motorcycle accident in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She will be deeply missed by all those who played with her, and those who coached her throughout her time at Cleveland State.

Blue played for the Vikings from 2008 through 2012, helping Cleveland State capture its second Horizon League Tournament title and second berth in the NCAA Tournament during the 2009-10 season. She came to CSU as part of a five-member freshmen class which was part of two 19-win seasons (2008-09 & 2009-10), and a 21-win season in 2010-11. Blue played in 100-plus games for the Vikings throughout her career, averaging 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game during her final season.

"Losing Destinee has been one of the worst things our program has ever experienced. She was so happy and full of life, impacting each of us during her time at Cleveland State," head coach Kate Peterson Abiad said. "She maintained close relationships with all of her teammates and her death has created a terrible void for all of them. Our women's basketball program and the Cleveland State Athletic Department would like to extend our deepest sympathies to her family as they are certainly in our thoughts right now."

Blue also played professional basketball in Paris, but was back in the states rehabbing a knee injury in hopes of returning overseas to continue playing professionally.

Blue, who was full of personality and laughter, was the beloved daughter of Eric Blue and Del Shannon McAllister and the cherished sister of Eric, Shrell, Ericka, and Mohogany.

Blue was a graduate of Milwaukee Vincent High School where she was a standout on the basketball court leading the team to two state championships.
