INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Following a career-high performance against Wright State last week, Cleveland State women's basketball sophomore Adesuwa Aideyman has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week. This is the first weekly award for Aideyman, and the fifth time that CSU has picked up a weekly honor this season.
Aideyman's career-high performance led the Vikings to a 100-93 victory over Wright State last Saturday, improving Cleveland State's record to 11-11 overall and 6-3 in league action.
"This Player of the Week honor is well deserved for Des, she has played excellent basketball for us over the past few weeks and is coming into her own as a player," head coach Kate Peterson Abiad said. "She has made several big plays for us in the games leading up to this week, and then had a tremendous game against Wright State on Saturday. I am pleased that the Horizon League has chosen to honor Des with this award, and can't wait to see what she will bring to the court the remainder of the season."
Against Wright State, Aideyman led the Viking offense with a career-high 23 points, going 7-for-10 from the field and 5-for-6 from three-point. She also added three rebounds, three assists, and a steal against the Raiders.
Aideyman, who has been quiet offensively throughout the season, has stepped up over the last two weeks averaging 19.7 points per game over the last three contests (vs. Valparaiso, vs. Youngstown State, vs. Wright State). During this stretch Aideyman has been 19-for-39 from the field (.487), 14-for-28 from behind-the-arc (. 500), and 7-for-11 from the free throw line (.636).
Against Valparaiso (Jan. 27), Aideyman converted seven three-pointers – the second best single game total in program history and the best mark among league players this season.
For the season, Aideyman is averaging 8.0 points, 2.8 assists, and 1.5 rebounds per game and has been in the starting lineup for all 22 contests.
Aideyman and the Vikings will continue Horizon League play this week, hosting Valparaiso at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 13) and Detroit at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 15). Entering the week, Cleveland State is tied for second place in the league standings and on a three-game win streak.
