INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Following an excellent start to Horizon League play, Cleveland State junior Imani Gordon has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week. Gordon led the Vikings to a pair of road wins over Detroit and Wright State last week – as CSU is now 2-0 in league play for the second straight season.
"Imani is playing great basketball right now," head coach Kate Peterson Abiad said. "She has been an offensive force as we begin our league season and is also playing excellent defense. Her energy and emotion on the basketball court has led us to our 2-0 start in league play and was a major factor in us being able to pick up two important road wins last week."
Gordon paced the Vikings in both games last week, recording back-to-back double-doubles for the first time in her career. The Akron, Ohio native opened the week with a 25-point, 12-rebound performance at Detroit, and then came back to tally 30 points and 14 rebounds against Wright State.
The 30 points against Wright State marked a career-high for Gordon, while she became the first Viking to notch a 30+ point game this season and just the fifth Horizon League player to do so.
Along with her 25 points and 12 boards at Detroit, Gordon also notched a career-high six steals – leading the Vikings to their sixth 10+ steal game of the season.
Through the first week of Horizon League play, Gordon leads the league averaging 27.5 points per game during league contests only, and ranks second averaging 13.0 rebounds per game.
For the season, Gordon ranks eighth averaging 16.7 points per game and third averaging 9.2 rebounds per contest – one of just three league players to rank in the top-10 in both categories. She also leads the league in minutes played (37.7 mpg), while ranking third in steals (2.1 spg) and defensive rebounds (6.3 rpg), and eighth in offensive boards (2.9 rpg).
Gordon also picked up weekly honors from College Sports Madness, as she was selected as their Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Gordon and the Vikings will look to stay perfect in Horizon League play this Thursday (Jan. 16), as they welcome the Milwaukee Panthers to the Wolstein Center for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
