CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's basketball program added a fourth member to its coaching staff Friday (June 14) afternoon, as head coach Kate Peterson Abiad announced the hiring of Darryl Brown. Brown joins the Vikings with 12 years of collegiate basketball experience and will serve as an assistant coach at Cleveland State.

"When I first crossed paths with Darryl it was immediately evident that he is very loyal and committed to the program for which he is working," Peterson Abiad said. "After long discussions, I was impressed by how his vision paralleled mine when it came to developing young women both personally and athletically. Darryl quickly puts the program before himself and represents the type of leadership that we want to display in our program. I look forward to working with him to further the success of the Cleveland State women's basketball program."

Most recently, Brown spent five seasons at Pepperdine University - three as an assistant coach (2008-09 through 2010-11) and two as the associate head coach (2011-12 & 2012-13). During his five years with the Waves, Brown guided the team to three straight third-place finishes in the West Coast Conference, the finals of the 2010 WCC Championship and to the 2010 & 2011 Women's NIT. While at Pepperdine, six Waves earned West Coast Conference accolades under Brown, including Jazmine Jackson who was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year.

Prior to his time at Pepperdine, Brown spent four years at Cheyney University, an NCAA Division II school in Cheyney, Pa. Brown served as the head coach during the 2006-07 & 2007-08 seasons, and as an assistant coach during 2004-05 & 2005-06. During his final year with the Wolves, Brown earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors - the first coach in program history to earn the award - after leading Cheyney to its best record in 18 years.

Brown also spent time as an assistant coach at Temple (1998-99 & 1999-2000) and Montclair State (2001-02).

A native of Philadelphia, Brown graduated from The Fox School of Business at Temple University with a degree in Marketing in 1995.
