SETTING THE SCENE
The Vikings will hit the road for the final time during 2012, traveling to Nashville, Tenn. to face the Tennessee State Lady Tigers. Cleveland State will face TSU at 3:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, Dec. 16 in the Gentry Center. The Vikings are riding a three-game win streak entering Sunday's contest and currently stand at 4-4 on the season.
LAST TIME OUT
The Vikings extended their win streak to three games last Saturday (Dec. 8), defeating Miami (Ohio), 87-75. The win marked the first over the Redhawks in program history, while it also improved the Vikings to 4-4 on the season.
SCOUTING THE LADY TIGERS
Tennessee State enters Sunday's contest standing at 3-5 on the season, and currently on a two-game losing skid. The game against CSU will be the first for the Lady Tigers in two weeks, as TSU fell to Montana State last time out (Dec. 3)...The Tigers were selected to finish fifth in the East Division of the OVC in a preseason poll, while senior Jasmin Shuler was named to the All-OVC Preseason Team...So far this season Shuler is averaging 8.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 2.0 spg...Senior Simone Hopes leads the team with 10.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg, while also ranking sixth in the OVC in rebounding.
WINTON NOTCHES TRIPLE-DOUBLE AGAINST REDHAWKS
With 29 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists against Miami (Ohio), Shalonda Winton became the fourth Viking all-time to record a triple-double, and the first since the 2002-03 season. Winton, who is just one of three Division I players to have a triple-double this season, joins Viking alums Ashley Schrock (2), Mahogany Green (1) and Sue Koziol (2) in the CSU record book.
...MARKS CAREER-HIGH WITH 11 ASSISTS
Shalonda Winton's 11 assists against the Redhawks marked a career-high for the senior, while it is also the best mark in the league so far this season. Winton now ranks second in the league averaging 4.8 assists per game and is the first Viking to notch double-digit assists since the 2010-11 season when Takima Keane recorded 10 against IPFW (3/16/11).
VIKINGS FROM THREE-POINT
Cleveland State had an impressive performance from three-point last Saturday, shooting 57-percent and knocking down 12 three's. The 12 three's is the most since the 2007-08 season when CSU tallied 13 against Green Bay (3/14/08), and the first time that the Vikings have reached double-digit three-pointers since the 2010-11 season.
GREEN CONTINUES SCORING STREAK
Kiersten Green once again set a career-high last Saturday (Dec. 8), posting 17 points against Miami (Ohio). With a 6-for-8 performance from the field - including a 3-for-4 mark from behind the arc - Green posted her sixth straight double-digit scoring game and currently ranks 22nd in the league averaging 10.4 points per game
WINTON RECORDS ASSIST #250
With the 11 assists against Miami (Ohio) last Saturday, Shalonda Winton became the second Viking all-time to record 1,250 points, 250 assists and 850 rebounds on their career. Winton, who enters the week with 1,374 points, 259 assists and 851 rebounds, joins Audra Cook (1,805 pts, 267 ast, 1,030 rbs) as the only Vikings to accomplish the feat.
COLEMAN FROM BEHIND THE ARC
Cori Coleman, who has a team-high 14 three-pointers so far this season, has recorded at least two three-pointers in three straight games - against VCU, Indiana and Miami (Ohio). Coleman ranks ninth in the league with a .359 three-point percentage, and has converted at least one shot from the behind the arc in seven out of eight games this year.
VIKINGS STRONG OFFENSIVELY AGAINST REDHAWKS
For the second straight contest CSU had a .491 field goal percentage, shooting 27-for-55 against Miami (Ohio) last Saturday. The Vikings have now shot 40-percent or better in five games this season (South Dakota, Ohio, Santa Clara, Indiana & Miami).
SCHMITT CONTINUES STRONG PLAY
Haley Schmitt continued to be an offensive threat for the Vikings against Miami (Ohio), recording the second double-digit scoring game of her career with 11 points. Schmitt, who made her lone three-point attempt, was flawless from the field (4-for-4), and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
WINTON BECOMES ALL-TIME LEADER IN OFFENSIVE BOARDS
With six offensive rebounds against Nevada (Nov. 23), Shalonda Winton became the all-time leader in the category at Cleveland State, and enters Sunday's contest with 298. Winton, who now has 851 total rebounds on her career, passed Lanette Taylor (1989-92) who tallied 283 offensive rebounds during her career.
VIKINGS WITH THE STEAL
Entering the week Cleveland State ranks second in the league averaging 10.3 steals per game, while four players rank in the top-12 individually - the most from a single school. The Vikings have notched double-digit steals in five contests this season, including a season-high 15 against Nevada. The individuals who rank in the top-12 are; Shalonda Winton (3.0-2nd), Kiersten Green (2.6-3rd), Imani Gordon (1.8-7th), Cori Coleman (1.6-11th).
WINTON RANKS SECOND NATIONALLY IN SCORING
Following a 29-point performance against Miami (Ohio), Shalonda Winton now ranks second nationally averaging 24.1 points per game. Georgetown's Sugar Rodgers is the lone Division I player ahead of Winton, and is averaging 24.2 points per game. Winton is one of just five players nationally to average at least 20.0 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game.
TAKING CARE OF THE BALL
For the first time since the 2009-10 season the Vikings committed less than 10 turnovers, recording nine against Indiana. On the other hand, CSU forced Indiana into 16 turnovers, marking the sixth game this season that Cleveland State's opponent has had 15 or more turnovers. The Vikings have also recorded fewer turnovers than their opponent six times this season.
WINTON REACHES 850-REBOUND MILESTONE
With her 14 boards against the Redhawks last Saturday, Shalonda Winton became the sixth Viking all-time to reach the 850-rebound milestone. Winton currently ranks sixth all-time at CSU with 851 rebounds, needing just four more boards to move into fifth place which is held by Lanette Taylor (854 rebounds).
WINTON TIES CAREER-HIGH AGAINST NEVADA
Shalonda Winton's 31 points against the Wolfpack tied a career-high for the senior, and marked the third 30-point game of her career. Winton is one of two league players to post 30-point games this season (Shareta Brown, Detroit) and is second in the league with 164 points through seven games.

The Vikings will open a four-game homestand next Tuesday (Dec. 18), hosting Ole Miss at 7:00 p.m. Along with the Rebels, CSU will host New Hampshire (Dec. 22), Lake Erie (Dec. 28) and Butler (Jan. 3) during its homestand.
