CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out the exhibition portion of its schedule Sunday afternoon, defeating Ursuline College, 66-33. Cleveland State will now open the regular season this Friday (Nov. 9), hosting South Dakota at 5:00 p.m.
The trio of Shalonda Winton, Cori Coleman and Nafeshia Holifield led the Viking offense Sunday, Winton with 15, and Coleman and Holifield with 10 points each. Winton also tallied a team-high eight rebounds, while Imani Gordon added seven and Kaila Montgomery and Holifield each notched five.
Entering the second half, Cleveland State held just a seven-point lead (24-17), but went on a 14-4 run during the first five minutes of the second frame, extending their lead to 17 points at the 38-21 mark. During this run CSU got points from six different players, including a pair of three-pointers from Winton and Gordon.

After allowing an Ursuline three-pointer on the next possession, Cleveland State posted 10 straight points, extending their lead to 24 (48-24) with 11:13 left to play.
The Arrows managed just nine more points during the final 11 minutes, while Cleveland State closed the contest on a 12-4 run for the 66-33 victory. The Vikings recorded a trio of three-pointers during this span, one from Haley Schmitt and two from freshmanJasmine Flanagan
As a team, the Vikings shot 47-percent from the floor (27-57), including a 54-percent clip during the second half (17-31). CSU outrebounded the Arrows, 37-29, and forced 28 Ursuline turnovers.
