INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After leading Cleveland State to a victory over Miami (Ohio) with her first career triple-double last Saturday, women's basketball standout Shalonda Winton has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week (Dec. 3 - Dec. 9). The league made the announcement Monday (Dec. 10) afternoon.
"It is such a great achievement for Shay to earn Horizon League Player of the Week honors," head coach Kate Peterson Abiad said. "She leads our team in every way and I am proud that she is being recognized by the league for her efforts. It is an amazing accomplishment for a player to record a triple-double, and for Shay to be one of only three players nationally to have one this season says a lot for what she does for our program."
In last Saturday's 87-75 victory over Miami (Ohio), Winton became the fourth Viking all-time to notch a triple-double, recording 29 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. The 11 assists marked a career-high for the Pittsburgh, Pa. native, while the 29 points marked her seventh 20-point game of the season. Winton joins Winthrop's Schaquilla Nunn and Maryland's Alyssa Thomas as the only Division I players to have a triple-double this season.
Entering the week Winton leads the league averaging 24.1 points per game, while she ranks second in rebounding (11.0), assists (4.8) and steals (3.0). She currently ranks in the top-10 in eight categories in the CSU career record book; points (7th-1,374), rebounds (6th-851), defensive rebounds (2nd-554), offensive rebounds (1st-298), free throws made (4th-371), free throws attempted (4th-510), blocked shots (5th-85) and games started (7th-95).

Along with Horizon League honors, Winton was also tabbed the College Sports Madness High-Major National Player of the Week. College Sports Madness identifies the highest impact players nationally each week.
Winton and the Vikings will put their three-game win streak on the line this Sunday (Dec. 16), as they travel to Tennessee State for a 3:00 p.m. EST contest.
