SETTING THE SCENE
The Vikings will continue their four-game homestand this Saturday (Dec. 22), hosting the New Hampshire Wildcats in a 1:00 p.m. contest. Cleveland State enters Saturday's contest standing at 6-4 on the season, and will be trying for its first win against the Wildcats. UNH owns a 2-0 overall series advantage with the last contest coming during the 1987-88 season.
LAST TIME OUT
The Vikings extended their win streak to five games Tuesday evening (Dec. 18), defeating Ole Miss, 67-55. The win gave CSU its first-ever victory over an SEC school, and improved the Vikings to 6-4 on the season.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
New Hampshire enters Saturday's contest standing at 5-5 on the season, defeating Wagner, 77-54 last time out...On the season UNH is 2-3 in road contests, with its last road victory coming at Holy Cross on November 17...Senior Morgan Frame, who ranks second on the team in scoring and rebounding, was named the America East Player of the Game following her 14-point, nine-rebound performance against Wagner...Senior Cari Reed ranks third on the UNH career three-point leaderboard (143), and has recorded 22 of the Wildcats' 41 three-pointers this season...Reed is the lone America East player to rank in the top-10 in both scoring (3rd-12.9ppg) and rebounding (6th-7.2rpg) so far this year.
CSU LOOKS TO KEEP HOME RECORD PERFECT DURING 2012-13
Entering Saturday's contest Cleveland State is undefeated at home this season, topping South Dakota, VCU, Miami (Ohio) and Ole Miss earlier this year. Under head coach Kate Peterson Abiad the Vikings are 75-59 (10 seasons) at home, including a 46-19 mark over the past five seasons. CSU is one of five Horizon League teams to be undefeated at home this year, and will play seven of its next eight games with home court advantage.
WINTON ON THE SCORING CHARTS
Following her 10th double-digit scoring game of the season with 17 points against Ole Miss, Shalonda Winton became the seventh Viking all-time to reach the 1,400 point milestone. Winton, who has a team-high 227 points on the season, enters Saturday's contest ranked seventh at CSU with 1,408 career points. She is 51 points shy of moving into sixth place, and 61 points shy of moving into fifth place on the career chart.
COLEMAN LEADS VIKING OFFENSE AGAINST OLE MISS
Cori Coleman recorded the second 20-point game of her career against the Rebels last Tuesday, ending right the number to lead the Viking offense. Coleman, who recorded 17 of her points during the second half, tied her career-high with four three-pointers and currently has a team-high 21 on the season. She ranks fourth in the league with a .420 three-point field goal percentage, and has converted at least three shots from behind the arc in five games this year.
GREEN BECOMES THIRD VIKING WITH 100 POINTS THIS SEASON
With 10 points against Ole Miss, Kiersten Green became the third Viking to record 100 points this season, entering Saturday's contest with 100 exactly. This season Green has recorded seven double-digit scoring games, including a career-high 17 against Miami (Ohio) (Dec. 8). Cleveland State is now one of just three teams in the league that has three players with 100 points or more - joining Green Bay and Milwaukee.
KING REACHES 100 CAREER THREE-POINTERS
With a pair of three-pointers in the second half against Ole Miss, Honesty King became the 16th Viking all-time to reach 100 career three-pointers. King has 13 three-pointers on the season and has made at least one shot from the behind the arc in seven games this year.
WINTON MOVES UP ALL-TIME REBOUND LIST
Following a nine-rebound performance against Ole Miss, Shalonda Winton now ranks fourth all-time at CSU with 873 career boards. Winton, who is one of just six Vikings to reach the 850 rebound milestone on their career, is 21 boards shy of moving into third place on the list and 158 boards shy of becoming the all-time leader at Cleveland State. With at least 19 games left in the 2012-13 season, Winton needs to average 8.3 rebounds per contest to become the all-time leader at CSU.
SCHMITT SETS CAREER-HIGH AT TSU
Haley Schmitt, who has now posted career-highs in points and rebounds four times this season, set a personal-best with eight boards at TSU last Sunday. Schmitt had a team-best six offensive boards against the Lady Tigers, and enters the week ranking 10th in the league averaging 2.3 offensive rebounds per game.
WINTON NOTCHES TRIPLE-DOUBLE AGAINST REDHAWKS
With 29 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists against Miami (Ohio) (Dec. 8), Shalonda Winton became the fourth Viking all-time to record a triple-double, and the first since the 2002-03 season. Winton, who is just one of four Division I players to have a triple-double this season, joins Viking alums Ashley Schrock (2), Mahogany Green (1) and Sue Koziol (2) in the CSU record book.
...MARKS CAREER-HIGH WITH 11 ASSISTS
Shalonda Winton's 11 assists against the Redhawks marked a career-high for the senior, while it is also the best mark in the league so far this season. Winton ranks second in the league averaging 4.7 assists per game and is the first Viking to notch double-digit assists since the 2010-11 season when Takima Keane recorded 10 against IPFW (3/16/11).
VIKINGS FROM THREE-POINT
Cleveland State had an impressive performance from three-point against Miami (Ohio) (Dec. 8), shooting 57-percent and knocking down 12 three's. The 12 three's is the most since the 2007-08 season when CSU tallied 13 against Green Bay (3/14/08), and the first time that the Vikings have reached double-digit three-pointers since the 2010-11 season.
WINTON RECORDS ASSIST #250
With the 11 assists against Miami (Ohio) (Dec. 8), Shalonda Winton became the second Viking all-time to record 1,250 points, 250 assists and 850 rebounds on their career. Winton, who enters the week with 1,408 points, 268 assists and 873 rebounds, joins Audra Cook (1,805 pts, 267 ast, 1,030 rbs) as the only Vikings to accomplish the feat.
WINTON IN THE NATIONAL STATISTICS
Following her seventh double-double of the season against TSU (Dec. 16), Shalonda Winton ranks in the top-five nationally in three categories. Winton ranks third averaging 22.7 points per game, fourth with seven double-doubles and she is tied for the lead with one triple-double on the year. Winton is also one of just two players nationally to average at least 20.0 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game.
TAKING CARE OF THE BALL
For the first time since the 2009-10 season the Vikings committed less than 10 turnovers, recording nine against Indiana (Dec. 2). On the other hand, CSU forced Indiana into 16 turnovers, marking the sixth game this season that Cleveland State's opponent has had 15 or more turnovers. The Vikings have also recorded fewer turnovers than their opponent six times this season.
