CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (3-5, 2-2) dropped a close one to reigning MAC Champions, Lock Haven (2-5, 1-0) 20-16 during Alumni Night on Friday evening. The Vikings welcomed back 28 alumni along with former head coach Dick Bonnaci.
The Eagles opened the match with a 9-5 decision at 125-pounds followed by a 14-2 major decision at 133-pounds to lead 7-0.
No. 30 Dylan Layton got the Vikings on the board with an 8-6 victory at 141-pounds to trail 7-3. However, Lock Haven answered right back with a 6-2 decision at 149-pounds to lead 10-3.
No. 33 Marcus Robinson edged out his opponent, 4-3, at 157-pounds as the Green and White trailed 10-6 at the intermission.
Lock Haven came out of the break strong using a 15-5 major decision at 165-pounds and a fall at 174-pounds to extend their advantage to 20-6.
The Vikings then mounted a comeback which started at 184-pounds as DeAndre Nassar won 3-2 to trail 20-9. A 10-2 major decision by Anthony Perrine at 197-pounds brought the deficit down to 20-13.
Daniel Bucknavich capped off the evening with a 6-1 victory at 285-pounds, but it wasn't enough as Cleveland State had their three-match winning streak ended, 20-16.
