Cleveland State Wrestling Releases Recruiting Class

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Head coach Josh Moore of the Cleveland State University wrestling team announced that seven student-athletes have committed to the Vikings.

Dylan Layton | Indian Land, S.C. | Indian Land High School | 141-Pounds
Layton comes to Cleveland State from Indian Land High School, where he carries a 4.20 GPA. As a senior, Layton ranks No. 25 nationally by Rokfin and is the No. 1 wrestler in the state of South Carolina at 132-pounds. He is a two-time South Carolina High School State Champion (2020 and 2021) and holds a two-year record of 72-3. Off the mat, Layton helps his wrestling club at charity events raising money for families dealing with adolescent disease. He also helps at the Christmas Tree farm in his community.

Michael Markulin | Canfield, Ohio | South Range High School | 141/149-Pounds
Markulin arrives at Cleveland State from South Range High School, where he holds a 4.00 GPA and ranks first in his class. Markulin is a three-time Ohio High School State qualifier, placing fifth at the championship as a junior at 126-pounds. As a senior, he is ranked No. 5 in the state at 138-pounds. He was also the first freshman in program history to qualify for states. Off the mat, he is a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club, along with co-founding the Raiders Spirit Club.

Keith Ransom | Mexico, Mo. | Missouri High School | 141/149-Pounds
Ransom joins the Vikings from Missouri High School, where he was a member of the FFA and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Ransom is a three-time All-Academic member and four-time Missouri State qualifier. In his senior season, he finished second at the State Championship. As a freshman, he placed second, third as a sophomore, and won the championship as a junior. In addition, Ransom is a youth wrestling coach.

Tate Geiser | Dalton, Ohio | Dalton High School | 157/165-Pounds
Geiser comes to Cleveland State from Dalton High School, where he was a two-time Ohio State qualifier. After qualifying for the first time as a sophomore, Geiser was the runner-up as a junior. In his senior season, he is ranked No. 1 at 157-pounds.

Nate Urry | Olmstead Falls, Ohio | Olmstead Falls High School | 165/174-Pounds
Urry arrives at Cleveland State from Olmstead Falls High School, where he was a member of the honors math and science society along with the national honors society. Urry is a two-time Ohio State qualifier. After qualifying as a sophomore, Urry placed fourth at 160-pounds as a junior. This season, he is ranked No. 4 in the state at 175-pounds. Off the mat, he tutors kids in math and science.

Nick Molchak | Solon, Ohio | Solon High School | 125-Pounds
Molchak arrives at Cleveland State from Solon High School, where he placed fourth at the Ohio state Championship as a senior. He claimed two Sectional Championships and two state medals. In addition, he won a District Championship and ended his career with 120 victories.

JR Reed | Stow, Ohio | Stow-Monroe Falls High School | 165-Pounds
Reed arrives at Cleveland State from Stow-Monroe Falls High School, where he carried a 4.60 GPA. Reed is the recipient of the Cleveland State Honors Scholarship. As a senior, he placed seventh at the Ohio state Championships. In addition, he was a two-time state qualifier, ending his career with 123 wins.
