Cleveland State Wrestling Falls to Ohio on Senior Night

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State fell to Ohio University 27-12 on Senior/Alumni Night on Saturday evening inside Woodling Gymnasium. Prior to the start of the match, the Vikings honored their two seniors; John Kelbly and Riley Smucker.

Cleveland State jumped out to a 3-0 lead after Logan Heil prevailed 1-0 at 125-pounds. The lone point of the match was scored on an escape at the start of the second period.

Jake Manley extended the advantage to 6-0 after winning 5-2 at 133-pounds. Manley secured the victory with a takedown with five seconds left in the third.

Ohio evened the match with a forfeit victory at 141-pounds and claimed their first lead, 9-6, with a 3-1 overtime victory at 149-pounds. The Bobcats then extended the margin to 15-6 with a forfeit win at 157-pounds.

The Vikings pulled to within 15-9 after No. 31/33 Riley Smucker earned a 3-1 decision at 165-pounds. All three points came in the second period on an escape and takedown.

Ohio got the three points back with a 10-5 decision at 174-pounds and used a forfeit victory at 184-pounds to lead 24-9.

Ben Smith used three takedowns in the third period including the match-winning takedown with 24 seconds left to win 12-11 at 197-pounds as the Vikings pulled to within 24-12.

The final match of the evening went to the Bobcats with an 8-2 decision as Ohio defeated the Vikings, 27-12.
