Cleveland State Wrestling Falls in Home Opener to No. 21 Purdue

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings fell in their home opener to No. 21 Purdue 39-7 on Sunday afternoon inside Woodling Gymnasium.

Purdue opened the match with a technical fall as No. 33 Logan Heil was shutout by No. 11 Devin Schroder, 15-0. A forfeit followed at 133 and then back-to-back major decisions at 141 and 149 pounds extended the deficit to 19-0.

Marcus Robinson got the Vikings on the board at 149 pounds with an 18-6 major decision over Trey Kruse as Cleveland State trailed 19-4. Caleb Cass suffered a 7-3 decision at 157 pounds as the Green and White trailed 18-4 at the intermission.

The Boilermakers received a forfeit at 165 pounds and a major decision at 174 pounds extended the margin to 28-4.

DeAndre Nassar won a thrilling 2-1 match over No. 21 Mat Lyon at 184 pounds as Cleveland State got to within 28-7.

Purdue ended the match with a tech fall at 197 and a pin just as the buzzer sounded in the second period of the heavyweight's as Cleveland State fell, 39-7.

The Vikings return to the mat on Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Navy Classic.
