Barnett Named EWL Wrestler of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Redshirt freshman Brady Barnett of the Cleveland State University wrestling team was named the Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week Monday.

In earning this honor for the first time, Barnett becomes the second active Viking to have won this award, joining senior Evan Cheek.

Barnett registered a pin in his only bout this past week, helping CSU take down Bloomsburg, 27-15, for its first EWL victory of the season. After he had opened up a 6-0 lead in the first period, Barnett went on to pin Grant Bond of the Huskies in the second period. At the time, it turned a 9-5 Viking lead into a 15-5 cushion on the scoreboard.

With the win, Barnett improved to 15-7 in his first season wearing a CSU singlet. He now leads the team with seven pins and is tied for the team lead in dual points earned (35).  His seven dual wins ranks second on the squad.

Barnett and the Vikings will be back in action this Friday, Feb. 1, when they host Kent State at 7:00 p.m.
