CLEVELAND, Ohio – Head coach Josh Moore of the Cleveland State University wrestling program announced the addition of transfer Armando Torres to the program for the 2018-19 season.
Torres, a transfer from Eastern Michigan, returns home with this move as he hails from Lorain, Ohio and went to Elyria High School. He has one year of eligibility remaining and is likely to be featured at 133 pounds.
Torres posted a 13-6 record as an unattached collegian in the 2014-15 season. He then won 12 matches, including tallying a 9-4 record in duals, in 2015-16 while serving as EMU's primary starter at 125 pounds. Torres also earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference honors that season.
Torres competed at three different weight classes in 2016-17 and totaled 10 wins. He led the team with three technical falls and finished with six bonus-point wins. He notched a 7-7 overall record last season, winning the Purple Raider Open and also picking up a pair of victories at the Cliff Keen Tournament.
Torres was a state runner-up while at Elyria and also earned All-American honors in the Junior Freestyle division in Fargo, N.D.
Torres is enrolled in the Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in CSU's College of Education and Human Services.
