Cleveland State Releases 2017-18 Schedule

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State University head wrestling coach Ben Stehura announced the program's 2017-18 schedule Tuesday.

CSU will open the season with a pair of opens on the first two weekends of November. The Vikings will travel to the Clarion Open (Nov. 5) to commence the campaign before taking part in the EMU Open (Nov. 11).

The Vikings will open dual action with the second annual Thanksgiving Throwdown Tuesday, Nov. 21. Ohio State is hosting this year's tri-dual with Kent State joining the Buckeyes and Vikings.

Cleveland State continues dual action on the first weekend of December by competing in the Hoosier Duals. In addition to host Indiana, Northern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville will also be at the event.

The Vikings will open their home slate with duals on back-to-back days, as they welcome Eastern Michigan Friday, Dec. 8, and John Carroll Saturday, Dec. 9. CSU will remain at home the following weekend as it hosts its annual CSU Open Saturday, Dec. 16.

For the seventh consecutive season, Cleveland State will christen a new calendar year by taking part in the two-day Southern Scuffle event, which is hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. In last year's event, nine teams participated that were in the preseason top 25 rankings.

For the second straight season, all six of CSU's Eastern Wrestling League duals will take place after the turn of the new year.

The Vikings open the EWL slate with home matchups against Rider (Jan. 19) and George Mason (Jan. 27). Immediately after hosting the Patriots, CSU will have its road EWL opener at Clarion (Jan. 28).

Cleveland State will then travel to Bloomsburg (Feb. 2) and Clarion (Feb. 3) on back-to-back days before closing its League slate at home against Edinboro (Feb. 17).

Cleveland State will travel to the EWL Championships, hosted by Edinboro, Saturday, March 3. Each of the Vikings competing will be looking for a chance to compete at the NCAA Championships, which are being held in Cleveland this season.

CSU will likely add an additional open(s) event to the schedule at a later date.
