Corba Among Top 20 in Preseason Rankings

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Redshirt senior Nick Corba of the Cleveland State University wrestling team has been listed among the top 20 in preseason rankings released by various media outlets.

Corba was ranked 16th in Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine's (WIN) preseason rankings at 184 pounds and was tabbed 19th by FloWrestling. He was the only student-athlete from the Eastern Wrestling League listed in WIN's preseason rankings at his weight class.

Corba earned an at-large berth to last season's NCAA Championships at 184 pounds, the first athlete to earn an at-large berth in head coach Ben Stehura's tenure at CSU. He picked up two wins in elimination matches at the NCAA Tournament, a pin and a major decision. In doing so, he became the first Viking to have two bonus-point wins at a NCAA Tournament since 1995.

Corba finished second at the Eastern Wrestling League Tournament, dropping a 6-3 decision in the finals. He completed the season with a career-high 25 wins, including 15 bonus-point victories in 2016-17.

Corba won titles at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open, Storm Open and Mat-Town Open II last season. He was named EWL Co-Wrestler of the Week Feb. 21 after sweeping matches in a tri-dual with Gardner-Webb and Northern Illinois.
