McGuire Added to Coaching Staff

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Head coach Ben Stehura of the Cleveland State University wrestling team announced the addition of Mack McGuire as graduate assistant coach Wednesday morning.

McGuire brings Division I coaching experience and an impressive resuming competing as a recent collegian.

McGuire served as a graduate assistant with Gardner-Webb this past season. He helped three Runnin' Bulldogs qualify for the NCAA Championships while GWU also earned All-Academic Team status from the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

McGuire was a four-time NCAA qualifier at Kent State and was seeded at the national tournament on two occasions. He racked up 109 career wins, including five at NCAA's, to rank among the top 15 in Kent's history. McGuire placed within the top three at the MAC Championships in each of his final three seasons and also earned Academic All-MAC and NWCA All-Academic Team honors three times each.

McGuire went 26-7 in his senior season while posting 10 bonus-point victories. A year prior, he netted a career-best 31 victories and tallied six wins in MAC dual competition. He placed at both the Southern Scuffle and the Navy Classic as a sophomore and won 10 matches against fellow NCAA qualifiers. McGuire earned an at-large berth to NCAA's as a freshman after winning 25 matches.

McGuire was also selected as a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete after both his junior and senior seasons, an award the conference bestows upon those it recognizes as the 'best of the best' from the Academic All-MAC Teams.

A native of Upper St. Clair, Pa., McGuire earned his Bachelor's degree from Kent State. He is pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree at Cleveland State.
