Corba Gets His Draw as NCAA Brackets Unveiled

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Redshirt junior Nick Corba of the Cleveland State University wrestling team found out his initial opponent as the brackets for next week's NCAA Championships were released Wednesday evening.

Corba will face Robert Steveson of Minnesota in his first match at the national tournament Thursday, March 16, during the opening session that begins at Noon (ET). The winner of that match will take on No. 12 seed Drew Foster of Northern Iowa later on in Thursday's first session.

NCAA Championships 184-Pound Bracket

Steveson has served as Minnesota's starter at 184 for nearly the entire season. He outperformed his seed by three places at the Big Ten Championships to earn one of the league's automatic qualifying spots.

With his draw, Corba will wrestle either one or two matches in Thursday's opening session and one or two matches in Thursday's evening session. He would need to win two matches Thursday to advance to the Friday's portion of the competition. In the NCAA Championships, consolation matches are wrestled to determine the top eight placers.

Thursday's opening session will be televised on ESPNU, and the evening session will be on ESPN. All matches will be broadcast on ESPN3 as well.

Corba had previously been announced as one of five at-large qualifiers at 184 pounds, earning his first trip to the national tournament. The 2017 NCAA Championships are taking place at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

Corba's selection to the NCAA Tournament is the 132nd all-time by a Viking since Cleveland State's inaugural selection to NCAA's in 1965.
