Corba Earns At-Large Berth to NCAA Championships

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Redshirt junior Nick Corba of the Cleveland State University wrestling team earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Championships as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.

Corba earned one of five at-large berths to NCAA's at 184 pounds. The 2017 NCAA Championships are taking place March 16-18 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

This will be Corba's first trip to the national tournament, but it will be the third straight year, and fourth time in five seasons, that Cleveland State will be represented at the NCAA Championships.

Corba sits among the top 18 in the latest rankings released by both Intermat and TrackWrestling. He surged up the rankings after finishing second at last weekend's Eastern Wrestling League Championships, upsetting the No. 2 seed to reach the finals. His title bout was deadlocked after two periods, but he went on to drop a 6-3 decision.

Corba is 23-8 overall on the season, all at 184, and owns 13 bonus-point victories. He wrestled eight matches this season against competitors who will comprise the 184-pound field at NCAA's.

Corba's selection is the 132nd all-time for a Viking student-athlete to NCAA's since the program's first selection in 1965. Corba is the first Viking to qualify at the 184-pound weight class since 2006 and the first Viking to earn an at-large berth to NCAA's under head coach Ben Stehura.

All six sessions of the NCAA Championships will be televised on ESPN or ESPNU with ESPN3 also streaming every match on every mat for the fourth consecutive year.
