Corba Surges Up Multiple Rankings

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Redshirt junior Nick Corba has surged up the rankings by multiple outlets after his effort at the Eastern Wrestling League Championships this past weekend.

Corba moved up to 17th in Intermat's 184-pound rankings, edging up three spots, while he gained five positions in TrackWrestling's weekly rankings and now sits in 18th in their listing.

Perhaps most importantly, Corba is the top-ranked wrestler in both rankings that is eligible for an at-large berth to the NCAA Championships. The NCAA Wrestling Committee is slated to announce at-large selections Wednesday, March 8.

Corba moved up the rankings after placing second at the EWL Championships. He won his quarterfinal bout via a shutout before upsetting the No. 2 seed in the semifinals with a 4-1 decision. Corba's championship bout was tied after two periods of action, but he went on to fall in a 6-3 decision.

Corba is 23-8 on the season and racked up 13 bonus-point victories.

Sophomore Evan Cheek, who took third at 141 pounds at the EWL Championships, has also met the eligibility standards for at-large selections and will await the announcement from the NCAA.
