LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Cleveland State University wrestling team had a lead in the team score after four bouts, but host Rider showed why it is nationally ranked as it came back to claim a 43-12 victory in Eastern Wrestling League action Sunday afternoon inside Alumni Gymnasium.

Sophomore Evan Cheek and senior Nick Montgomery both posted wins by fall to lead the Vikings' effort Sunday.

After dropping the first two matches of the dual at 125 and 133, Cheek got the momentum in CSU's corner. Cheek took a 3-0 lead after two periods but did not sit on it. Instead, he posted a pin with 31 seconds left in the match to get Cleveland State on the board.

Following along with the theme set by Cheek, Montgomery also notched a third-period pin over his opponent, this one coming with just 21 seconds remaining in the match.

The bouts at 157 and 165 featured Rider athletes that are nationally ranked by multiple outlets. The duo posted convincing wins to help the Broncs take back control of the dual.

Redshirt junior Nick Corba had a hard-fought bout at 184 but was unable to pull it out. Corba fell behind, 2-1, after the first period and was unable to rally as he dropped a 3-2 decision.

Cheek improved his team-leading win total with his victory as he now sports a 16-8 mark on the season. He now is 10-0 in 2016-17 in matches that ended via fall or technical fall.

Montgomery edged his record at 149 pounds back above .500 on the season with his victory. He picked his fourth win via fall this season while only suffering one setback in that category thus far on the campaign.

After contesting its first seven duals away from home, Cleveland State will have five of its final six duals at home, beginning this Thursday, Jan. 26, when it hosts EWL member Lock Haven.
