Cleveland State to Compete at Storm Open for First Time

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University wrestling team will open the month of December this Saturday at the Storm Open, hosted by Lake Erie College.

Action is scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m. As of this writing, wrestlers from 18 schools are registered along with a handful of unattached athletes as well. More than 200 wrestlers are slated to compete, making it the largest open that Lake Erie has ever hosted.

This is the fourth Storm Open hosted by Lake Erie but the first since the 2013-14 season. It also marks the first time that the Storm Open is on the Vikings' schedule.

Redshirt junior Nick Corba leads CSU in wins on the young season, as he owns a 6-2 mark at the 184-pound weight class.

Six Vikings, including five true freshmen, have picked up their first collegiate victories so far this season. Rookies Spencer Dusi (125), Terrell Grant (133) and Devon Pingel (174) all own four wins and are over .500 on the season.

Corba, Grant and Pingel all won titles at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open Nov. 13, the first open event of the season for the Vikings. Corba won the Open 184 title while Grant and Pingel both claimed the Freshman/Sophomore titles in their respective weight classes.

Redshirt senior RJ LaBeef enters the weekend with five wins on the campaign, including a perfect 3-0 mark against Division I foes.

CSU will return to dual action next weekend as it competes in a tri-dual featuring host Eastern Michigan and Big Ten foe Indiana.
