Jan. 20, 2005

Setting the Scene: The women's and men's tennis teams resume their 2004-05 season this weekend on the road and indoors. The women will head to Columbus to battle Ohio State in Jesse Owens Field House at 6:00 p.m., while the men's team takes on Michigan State at the MSU Indoor Facility starting at 4:00 p.m.

On Sunday (Jan. 23), the men's team will head south to face Xavier. The match, originally scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Cincinnati, will now be played at 1:00 p.m. at the Fairfield Hospital Tennis Complex, located at 3050 Mack Road in Fairfield, Ohio.

Vikings at a Glance: The women's team scored a 6-1 win over IPFW in their final match of the fall (Oct. 12). The Vikings took all three of the doubles contests, while freshman Jenn Myers scored a 6-1, 6-1 sweep at the number two singles match.

The men's team is coming off of a 2-1 three-day stretch at home, dropping 4-3 to Youngstown State (Oct. 10) before reeling off wins against Niagara (Oct. 11) and IPFW (Oct. 12). Senior Eric Winn picked up a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win at number two singles.

Boylan To Serve As Volunteer Assistant: Head coach Brian Etzkin announced the hiring of Teresa Boylan as a volunteer assistant coach. She will begin her duties working with the men's and women's teams this spring.

Boylan will assist the programs both on the road and in practice. A respected member of the local tennis community, she will provide an excellent technical side of coaching to the teams and will also aid in recruiting.

Prior to coming to CSU, Boylan spent the past three years as a certified teaching professional at the River Oaks Racquet Club in Rocky River, Ohio.

Formerly Teresa Baker, she returns to the Viking tennis program after serving as the head women's coach from 1997-2001 and as the head coach of the reinstituted men's team in its inaugural 2000-01 season. Current women's player Rebekah Bicksler and men's players Paul Haley and Eric Winn were recruited by Boylan in her final season with the Vikings but will play under her tutelage for the first time this spring.

Next Up: The CSU women's team will host Dayton at the River Oaks Racquet Club in Rocky River on Jan. 28 beginning at 6:00 p.m. before co-hosting St. Bonaventure with the men's team on Jan. 30 at 1:00 p.m.
