Indianapolis, Ind.-The Cleveland State men's tennis team downed Wright State 4-1 in the quarterfinal round of the Horizon League Tournament Saturday afternoon before being blanked by No. 1 seeded Butler in the semifinal match, 4-0.
CSU started the day strong in doubles against Wright State with the No. 2 duo of Rob West and Dan Singer, and the No. 3 pair of Brad Groleski and Steven Wipprecht both topping the Raiders 8-6.
With the early lead in hand the Vikings collected wins at the bottom three spots in the lineup. At No. 4 singles West downed Brian Butt 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. No. 5 Singer knocked off Dan Sundersingh 6-1, 6-1. Wipprecht defeated Michael Hall, 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot.
Cleveland State was less fortunate in the semifinal match of the day with Butler going 2-1 in doubles and sweeping the singles matches. First Team All-League selection Olivier Dhaine and second team selection Jay Tee combined for an 8-6 win at No.1 doubles, the Vikings lone win of the match.
In singles No. 4 West fell to Andy Bartish 6-4, 7-6 (6) in the closest match of the afternoon. No. 2 Tee fell to James Low 6-3, 6-3 and No. 3 Groleski lost to Parker ross 6-1, 6-2.
CSU will battle UW-Green Bay in the third-place match on Sunday, April 23 at 9:00a.m.
