Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Returns To Action With Annual Spring Break Trip

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will return to action this week on their annual Spring Break Trip, traveling south to the state of Florida. The Vikings will open the week at North Florida on Sunday, March 12, before facing UAB on Tuesday, March 14 in a neutral site match.

The Vikings will be returning to the courts for the first time in two weeks, as they were last in action at the DePaul Invite where they posted a perfect 3-0 record. Cleveland State notched wins against the host Blue Demons (4-2), Eastern Kentucky (4-2), and Army (4-1) last time out, extending its current win streak to seven straight matches. 

Cleveland State currently stands at 11-4 overall this season, and will be wrapping up a seven-match roadswing with the two matches in Florida this week. 

Last time out, head coach Brian Etzkin recorded his 300th win with the men's team, while junior Maxime Mareschal-Hay eclipsed the 50-win mark for his singles career. Etzkin reached his milestone with Cleveland State's 4-2 victory over Eastern Kentucky, while Mareschal-Hay's 50th singles win came in a 6-4, 7-6(3) decision at the No. 1 spot against Army. 

Entering Sunday's match at North Florida Mareschal-Hay and Raul Teichmann lead the team with 15 singles wins on the year, while Mareschal-Hay owns a team-best 10-3 mark in dual matches only. Teichmann is just two wins shy of joining Mareschal-Hay in the 50-win club, as he currently stands at 48 career singles wins. 

In doubles action, Cleveland State's top team of Teichmann and Kade Mindry stand at 13-7 overall this year, and have helped the Vikings pick up the doubles point in seven of their last eight matches.

Looking ahead, the Vikings will finally return to the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion to close out the month, as they will begin Horizon League play by hosting IUPUI on Saturday, March 25.
