Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Continues Momentum On Second Day Of Viking Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued its strong play on the second day of the Vikings Invitational Saturday, with three Vikings advancing to the semifinals of the Main Singles Draw.

After picking up two wins on Saturday the Cleveland State trio of Kade Mindry, Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Mikael Erler have all earned spots in tomorrow's semifinals.

Mindry picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Buffalo in his third round match, before notching a 2-6, 6-1, 1-0(4) victory over Youngstown State in his quarterfinal contest.

Mareschal-Hay earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over teammate Carl Gedlitschka in his third round match, while a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0(8) win against Buffalo put him into the semifinals.

Erler picked up a pair of straight-set victories in his two matches on Saturday, with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Youngstown State in the third round and a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Buffalo in the quarterfinals.

The Vikings were also able to pick up five back draw victories on Saturday, with Cole Chappell, Devin Boyer, Alan Matyjas and Ty Rothchild all notching wins.

In doubles action, JuandeDios Abboud and Carl Gedlitschka picked up a 6-4 victory over Buffalo to advance to the semifinals of the Main Doubles Draw, before bowing out against another Buffalo team.

The Vikings were also able to go 5-0 in their doubles back draw matches, including a pair of wins from Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Andrew Zimcosky. In addition, the duos of Cole Chappell/Mikael Erler, Austin Staiger/Alan Matyjas, and Devin Boyer/Ty Rothchild also notched wins.

Play at the Viking Invitational will conclude tomorrow, with doubles beginning at 9:00 a.m.
