CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team had a strong first day at the Viking Invitational, with six Vikings advancing in the Main Singles Draw.

Six Vikings remain in the Main Singles Draw after the first day of play, including the duo of Raul Teichmann and Carl Gedlitschka who both picked up two wins on Friday.
Teichmann earned a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0(9) victory against IUPUI in the first round and then posted a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(10) win over Youngstown State in the second round.
Gedlitschka picked up a 6-4, 6-0 victory against Niagara in his first match, before earning a 6-7(5), 6-3, 1-0(7) win over Buffalo in the second round.
Kade Mindry (6-2, 6-2), Maxime Mareschal-Hay (6-4, 6-2), Alan Matyjas (6-2, 7-6(5)), and Mikael Erler (6-2, 6-2) were all playing as seeds in the Main Singles Draw, picking up wins in their respective second round matches to advance to the third round.
On the doubles courts, two Cleveland State teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the Main Doubles Draw. JuandeDios Abboud and Gedlitschka picked up a 6-2 victory over Holy Cross in the first round, before earning a matching 6-2 win against Niagara in the second round.
Playing as the No. 3 seed, the duo of Mindry and Teichmann earned a bye into the second round, before picking up a 6-1 victory over Youngstown State to earn their spot in the quarterfinals.
Play at the Viking Invitational will continue tomorrow, with doubles beginning at 9:00 a.m.
