Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Returns To Action At Vredevelt Invite

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will continue its fall slate this weekend, with the majority of the team participating in the WMU/Vredevelt Invite. The two-day event will be on Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25. 

Cleveland State will be represented by the returning group of JuandeDios Abboud, Kade Mindry, Austin Staiger, and Raul Teichmann, while Devin Boyer, Cole Chappell, Carl Gedlitschka, Alan Matyjas, and Ty Rothchild will all be making their CSU debuts. 

WMU/Vredevelt Invite Schedule of Play
Saturday: 1 Round of Doubles, 2 Rounds of Singles
Sunday: 2 Rounds of Doubles, 1 Round of Singles 

WMU/Vredevelt Field
Cleveland State will be one of five teams competing, joining Butler, Chicago State, Navy, and the host Broncos. 

2022 Fall Campaign
This will mark the second of seven tournaments for the Vikings this fall, with Cleveland State also competing at the ITA All-American Championships, ITA Midwest Regional, Viking Invitational, Wake Forest Invitational, and Green & White Invitational.  

Erler & Mareschal-Hay Open Season At Milwaukee Tennis Classic
Last week, the Cleveland State duo of Mikael Erler and Maxime Mareschal-Hay got the 2022 fall season started at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, both advancing to the Round of 16 in the Main Singles Draw. This marked the third time that the Vikings have had representatives earn bids to the prestigious tournament, and the second straight year for Mareschal-Hay to be part of the field.  

Head Coach Brian Etzkin
The Vikings will be under the direction of 21-year head coach Brian Etzkin. As the all-time winningest coach in program history, Etzkin enters the 2022-23 campaign with 290 career wins. Etzkin is one of the longest tenured coaches in the Horizon League, and is the only coach to record 275+ wins at their current school.
