Erler & Mareschal-Hay Earn First Round Singles Wins At Milwaukee Tennis Classic

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened up its 2022 fall slate Friday, with Mikael Erler and Maxime Mareschal-Hay competing at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.

"Max and Mikael both got off to a great start in singles today, picking up two quality wins," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "One of the biggest positives was watching both of them play at a pretty high level after both coming back from serious injuries last season. If this is our starting point for the year, I'm excited about the level we can reach by the end of the season."

Mareschal-Hay and Erler were both able to pick up first round wins in the singles draw, Marsechal-Hay picking up a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0(9) victory over Wisconsin's Jared Pratt and Erler posting a 6-1, 6-1 win over Rami Scheetz of Marquette.

In the second round, Erler was matched up against the No. 4 seed, dropping a 6-3, 6-2 match, while Mareschal-Hay went up against the No. 8 seed, dropping a 7-5, 7-5 decision.

The duo also teamed up on the doubles court, dropping a hard fought 6-4 match against a Navy duo.

Erler will now play a singles consolation match tomorrow (Saturday, September 17) to close out play at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
