Terry Advances In Pre-Qualifying Draw At ITA All-American Championship

The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued its fall season Saturday, with Matthew Terry competing at the ITA All-American Championship and Luke Phillips and Clark Bilinovich leading the Vikings at the Rocket Invitational.

Matthew Terry began play in the ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying Singles Draw Saturday, going 2-0 on the day to advance to the second day of Pre-Qualifying play.

In his first round match, Terry picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Wake Forest's Ryan Mueller for his fourth straight singles win of the season.

Terry was then able to extend his current winstreak to five with a straight-set victory in the second round, as he picked up a 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory over UT Chattanooga's Niklas Gerdes in a late night match. For the season, Terry now stands at 5-1 in singles play.

Terry will now face Murkel Dellien of Wichita State in a third round match tomorrow morning, and will need to pick up two more singles wins to join teammate Nico Mostardi in the Qualifying Singles Draw at the ITA All-American Championship.

The Vikings continued play at the Rocket Invitational Saturday, playing another round of singles and doubles.

Cleveland State's lone win on the day came from Luke Phillips and Clark Bilinovich in doubles action, as the duo picked up a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Duquesne.

Action at the Rocket Invitational will wrap up tomorrow (Sunday, September 30), with one more round of singles and doubles play.
