Vikings Sweep Doubleheader With Wins Over Bucknell & John Carroll

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team picked up a pair of 7-0 sweeps at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion Sunday, improving to 7-4 on the season after wins over Bucknell and John Carroll.

Match Notes
· 2018 Record: 7-4
· The Vikings improved to 7-1 when playing in the MMTP this season.
· This was the second meeting between the two teams, with Cleveland State owning a 2-0 record in the series.

The Points
· For the seventh time this season the Vikings picked up the early point, getting wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. At the No. 2 spot, Luke Phillips and Gabriel Evtimov earned a 6-1 victory, while Jack Santilli and William Malm posted a 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot.
· Benjamin Slade picked up Cleveland State's first singles win against John Carroll, earning a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot. The win marked Slade's 49th career singles win, as he is now just one win shy of becoming the 12th Viking all-time with 50 career wins.
· The second singles win came from Jack Santilli at No. 6 singles, as he posted a 6-0, 6-1 win for his second singles win this spring.
· Luke Phillips posted the clinching point at the top of the lineup, earning his first collegiate win at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Phillips has now won five straight matches, and owns a 17-7 overall record this year, including a 7-3 mark this spring.
· William Malm posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles for the Vikings, improving to 5-1 in singles play this spring.
· Following his 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against John Carroll, Mirko Radosevic has 53 career singles wins, and is just five wins shy of earning a spot in the top-10 on the CSU Singles Wins List.
· The final singles point came from Gabriel Evtimov at the No. 2 spot, as he posted a 6-3, 6-4 win to improve to 4-6 this season.
