SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued its 2018 Spring Season Sunday evening, dropping a 5-2 contest at Notre Dame.

From The Sidelines
"I thought we competed better today than yesterday, and took a step forward in doubles and singles play. We had some really good energy in doubles today, and in singles we had some competitive matches on multiple courts which turned it into a battle. It was great to see Nico get a win at the top spot, and it's nice to see him hitting freely in big moments. Luke was able to overcome some nerves, and pulled out a big win in the end. We played some very strong competition over the first weekend of the season, and overall I thought we handled it well. We are looking forward to getting back to practice this week and playing at home next weekend." – Head Coach Brian Etzkin

· Luke Phillips & Nico Mostardi both picked up singles wins for the Vikings.
· Sunday was the first dual match meeting between the two teams under head coach Brian Etzkin.
· This marked the first time over the last 16 seasons that the Vikings opened their dual match slate against back-to-back Power Five teams.

The Points
· Nico Mostardi picked up his first singles win of the 2018 Spring Season Sunday, earning a 7-6 (2), 6-4 straight-set victory at the top of the lineup. Mostardi now owns a team-best 13-4 singles record this year, and is 1-0 this spring after not finishing his match against Ohio State yesterday.
· Luke Phillips earned his first collegiate dual match singles win Sunday, picking up a 4-6, 7-6, 10-6 win at No. 4 singles. Phillips was able to bounce back after dropping the first set to improve to 11-5 in singles play during his rookie campaign.

· Cleveland State will play at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion for the first time during the 2018 Spring Season next weekend, hosting Duquesne on Friday, January 26 and DePaul and Oberlin on Sunday, January 28.
