Men’s Tennis Set To Host Viking Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will close out its fall season this weekend, hosting the second annual Viking Invitational. Action at the Viking Invitational will begin on Friday, November 3 and run through Sunday, November 5 in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion on the Cleveland State campus.

2017 Viking Invitational
This year's Viking Invitational will be a single flight tournament, with a 48-player singles draw and a 24-team doubles draw. There will also be a backdraw for both singles and doubles matches.

Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion
The Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion is Cleveland State's on-campus indoor facility, which features six temperature controlled courts and spectator seating for 200 fans. Construction of the MMTP was completed during the spring of 2016, with the first match being held on March 9, 2016. Viking Invitational History
Cleveland State had a successful showing at the inaugural Viking Invitational last year, as Nico Mostardi won the Main Singles draw, while Colton Buffington and Jack Santilli picked up Consolation Singles draw titles and the doubles team of Mirko Radosevic and Andre Mick also earned a Consolation Doubles title.

2016 Singles Champion: Nico Mostardi, Cleveland State
2016 Doubles Champion: Marbach/Lundkvist, Northern Illinois

Terry & Phillips Having Strong Rookie Campaigns
After the first three tournaments of the fall season, the freshman duo of Matthew Terry and Luke Phillips have been leading the Vikings in singles play, Terry with a team-best 10-2 record and Phillips with an 8-3 mark. Terry has captured a pair of tournament titles in singles play, while he also advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA Regional last time out. Phillips, who worked his way into the main singles draw at the ITA Regional two weeks ago, is also part of Cleveland State's top doubles team so far this season, as he and Nico Mostardi own a 5-3 record.

Radosevic Closing In On Singles Win #50
Senior Mirko Radosevic is closing in on 50 career singles wins, needing just one more victory to achieve the feat. Radosevic, who has sat out the first three fall tournaments due to injury, would become the 12th Viking all-time to notch 50 career wins and the first since the 2014-15 season to reach the plateau.
