Terry Bows Out Of ITA Midwest Regional Main Draw

UPDATED MAIN SINGLES DRAW

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Cleveland State men's tennis freshman Matthew Terry bowed out of the ITA Midwest Regional Sunday, advancing to the Round of 16 before dropping a hard-fought match to a seeded opponent from Michigan.

"Matt had a nice run through his first regional tournament, he couldn't quite get into the match today, and despite being able to crack the door open a little in the second set, he just couldn't get the break he needed," Etzkin said. "Overall this was a great tournament for us, especially on the singles side of things. We definitely took a step forward this weekend and we are very excited about our accomplishments over the last few days. Now we will go back to the practice courts and look forward to finishing the fall season at our very own Viking Invitational."

Terry, who became the first Viking to advance to the third round of the Main Singles Draw, dropped a hard-fought 6-2, 6-4 match against Michigan's Runhao Hua Sunday to end his run at the ITA Midwest Regional.

Terry earned an automatic spot in the Main Singles Draw, and picked up back-to-back wins in his first and second round matches yesterday to earn his spot in the Round of 16. Terry finished the weekend with a team-best 10-2 singles record this fall.

Terry and the Vikings will close out their fall slate at the Viking Invitational, which will take place Friday, November 3 through Sunday, November 5 in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion on the Cleveland State campus.
