Vikings Fall At Penn State, 7-0

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team wrapped up its season-opening roadswing Saturday afternoon, dropping a 7-0 contest at Penn State.

"I thought we looked good in doubles today, we could have closed out some of the doubles points better, but overall we had some good doubles matches against a very tough Penn State team," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We had some hope on a couple of the singles courts, but we just couldn't push Penn State out of their comfort zone. We are excited to come off this roadtrip with a 1-1 record, and we are looking forward to hosting our first matches of the spring next weekend."

Although the Vikings dropped the doubles point, Cleveland State's No. 3 team of Benjamin Slade and Mirko Radosevic had an excellent performance, falling in their match by a score of 7-5.

Nico Mostardi put up a good fight in his No. 1 singles match, falling 6-3, 6-3, while Slade also had a good effort in his No. 4 singles match, falling 6-4, 6-1.

The Vikings will return to courts next Saturday (February 11), hosting Oberlin and Niagara in a doubleheader at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion. Action will start at 9:00 a.m.
