Cleveland, Ohio - For the third straight week, a pair of Cleveland State swimmers have garnered Horizon League swimmer of the week honors, the latest coming when Jakub Dobies and Joanna Olsson were named swimmers of the week following their individual victories at Ohio State last week. The duo earned the awards for the period of Nov. 23-29.

The league office made the announcement on Tuesday (Dec. 1).

Dobies posted a first place finish in the 100 breast at Ohio State (Nov. 24) last week, posting a time of 55.74, which barely missed the NCAA "B" qualifying standard of 55.51. He also recorded the fastest second leg split of the meet, when he swam a 24.91 during the 200 medley relay.

"After swimming against Ohio State it is obvious that Jakub is one of the top swimmers in the nation," head coach Wally Morton said. "Ohio State has one of its best teams and even so, Jakub was one of the best breaststrokers in the pool last week. He continually raises his performances based on the competition, and through that has shown why he is one of the top swimmers in the program."

Olsson claims her second consecutive award after taking home a first place finish in the 200 individual medley last week with a time of 2:07.59. She also placed second in the 500 (5:03.54) and the 1,000 free (10:23.82) at Ohio State.

"Joanna is a fierce competitor and she doesn't back down at anytime or any place," Morton said. "We feel that Joanna has the ability to be one of the best swimmers in the program and she is just scratching the surface of her talent. I look forward to watching her in the coming meets and seeing what she brings when the league championship comes around."

Dobies earned his third career weekly award and second this season, while Olsson has earned the honor twice while at CSU.

The Vikings will return to action after the new-year when they travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico for the Holiday Invitational on Saturday, January 9, 2010.
