Wilkens Named Horizon League Swimmer of the Week

Nov. 3, 2004

Cleveland - After a record-setting performance at UW-Green Bay last weekend, CSU senior swimmer Luke Wilkens has been named the Horizon League Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 2, the League office announced.

Wilkens earned the honor after winning the 200 butterfly in a Phoenix Sports Center Pool-record time of 1:52.35. He added a second win in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:42.57 and helped the men's team to a 135-90 win over the Phoenix.

"Luke has been extremely dedicated in practice, and, as a result, he is far ahead of where he was last year at this time," men's head coach Wally Morton said. "Our goal is to have him qualify for the NCAA Nationals at the end of the season, so we're looking forward to see what he can do throughout the year."

The men's and women's swimmers will host St. Bonaventure in the home opener Saturday, Nov. 6 at noon at Busbey Natatorium.
