West Lafayette, Ind. - Diver Thatcher Carr returned to his electrifying form on the second day of the NCAA Zone C meet, but his three-meter score of 492.65 was not enough for a championship bid against stiff competition at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. The score placed Carr in 10th overall on Saturday (March 12), falling short of the third-place cut-off for a trip to Minneapolis.

After struggling at one-meter on Friday, Carr showed signs of resurgence in the three meter. He opened up the finals with a forward three-and-a-half somersault, a dive with a 3.1 degree of difficulty, and nailed it for 60.45 points, giving him a brief first-place ranking through the first round. Carr remained in the hunt after a second-round score of 57.00 on a forward two-and-a-half somersault with a full twist dropped him to second place, but he fell to eighth after the third round and never recovered.

"He was definitely much improved over yesterday," head diving coach Rich Karban said. "I think he was more relaxed and just went out there and did what he knows how to do. And he ended up only 40 points away from qualifying."

The NCAA Championships run from March 24-26 in Minneapolis.
