Indianapolis, Ind. - After posting three individual victories in Cleveland State's win over UIC, Mark deSwardt was named Horizon League Swimmer of the Week for the period of Feb. 1-7.

The league office made the announcement on Monday (Feb. 8).

deSwardt led the Vikings to a record tying 14th dual meet win, after topping UIC 129.5-113.5 in the final dual of the season. He set a school record in the 200 fly, winning the race in 1:49.12, barely missing the NCAA "B" standard of 1:48.09.

deSwardt also brought home first place honors in the 500 free and 1,000 free, finishing the races in 4:31.87 and 9:24.18 respectively.

"Mark is one of the best competitors that I have ever coached and that definitely came through against UIC," head coach Wally Morton said. "He has been battling an injury and even with that he was able to set a school record in the 200 fly right after he swam a hard 1,000 free. Mark is a fierce competitor and he defines a winner in every aspect. It is great for him to be recognized for his efforts."

He is honored with his fourth accolade of the season and the ninth of his career. CSU has won swimmer or diver of the week honors 10 times this season, the most out of all Horizon League schools.

deSwardt will become eligible for the Horizon League Network's "People's Choice" award, which is announced each Thursday afternoon. Log on to www.HorizonLeagueNetwork.tv to vote.

deSwardt and the Vikings return to action at the Horizon League Championships, which will be held on the UIC campus from Feb. 24-27.
