Schantz Named Horizon League Swimmer Of The Week

CLEVELAND - After swimming to a pair of wins and a Horizon League top time, CSU sophomore Bjorn Schantz has been named the Horizon League Male Swim Athlete of the Week for Feb. 1.

Schantz swam to a Horizon League top time in the 1,000 free against Notre Dame and Canisius on Friday (Jan. 28), finishing second in 9:23.10, and helped the 400 free relay team to a win, swimming the second 100-yard leg in 46.64. He then tallied a pair of wins the next day (Jan. 29) against Valparaiso, swimming to top times in the 400 IM (4:09.62) and 200 fly (1:56.99).

"Bjorn is the swimmer to beat in the Horizon League when it comes to distance events," head coach Wally Morton said. "He is one of the top distance swimmers that we have ever had here at CSU, and he has the potential to be the best."

Schantz receives the award for the second time this season after claiming the recognitiion on Nov. 16. Women's swimmer Samantha Jones has also garnered the award twice this season, on Nov. 9 and Dec. 7.

The Vikings host Wright State and the Youngstown State women this Friday (Feb. 4) at 4:00 p.m. before welcoming UIC to Busbey Natatorium on Saturday (Feb. 5) for Senior Day beginning at 2:00 p.m.
