Cleveland State men's head coach Wally Morton recorded his 200th career dual meet win as the Viking men's and women's teams posted three-wins apiece against Baldwin-Wallace, Gannon and John Carroll at Busbey Natatorium Monday afternoon (Nov.12).

The 24th-year mentor added his 201st and 202nd wins at the triple- dual meet, as the men's squad scored a 155-74 win over BW, a 148-79 victory over Gannon and a 156-75 triumph over JCU. The women added a 143-89 win over the Yellow Jackets, a 135-77 mark over the Golden Knights and a 140-89 count over the Blue Streaks.

"I guess this means first of all that I'm old," Morton laughed when asked about reaching the milestone. "I am proud of the fact that I coach at Cleveland State. I have a great enthusiasm and love for this school which in turn has led to us having some great teams. We've really had some tremendous swimmers during my time here."

The CSU men's team took first in every swimming event on the day. Junior Daniel Thomasson and freshman Brady Lusk went 1-2 in the 1,000 freestyle while the sophomore Bjorn Schantz and freshman Dave Duecker placed first and second in the 200 freestyle. CSU also finished 1-2 in the 200 medley relay.

Senior Luke Wilkens added a pair of wins, swimming to top times in the 200 IM and the 100 fly, while senior Ryan Klaus notched victories in the 50 and the 100 freestyle. Additionally, Cleveland State took wins from senior Todd Hostutler in the 100 back, senior Gabriel Linton in the 100 breast, freshman Khaled Elgamal in the 500 free and freshman Dan Baiko in 1 meter diving.

"We had the opportunity tonight to put people in some events they normally wouldn't swim in," Morton added. "It's a good meet because it gives us some confidence as the semester winds down."

The women's team finished 1-2-3 in a pair of events. Sophomore Marianne Lionell led freshmen Deanna Raedel and Lesley Jones in the 100 free while senior Samantha Jones paced junior Wendy Peel and senior Marlene Przykling in the 100 back. Lionell also paced runner-up Lesley Jones in the 50 freestyle with a season-best 24.31.

Samantha Jones added a second win in the 100 fly while Lionell contributed a third top-time on the day in the 100 breast. Junior Kirsty McKechnie posted wins in the 500 free and the 200 IM while Raedel tallied a win in the 200 free.

"This is already our fifth meet of the season and it was our first chance to swim some of the shorter races," women's head coach Mike Lehto noted. "Our focus was on putting people in different races and focusing on turning in good times."

The Vikings will be idle for nearly three weeks when they compete at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio on Dec. 3-5.
