Carr Shatters Three-Meter Record On Final Day

Brown Deer, Wis. - Senior diver Thatcher Carr entered the Horizon League Championships with high expectations and did not disappoint as he dived to a Cleveland State three-meter record of 614.45 for first place on the final day of competition Saturday (Feb. 26). The men's team finished up the tournament with a second-place score of 688, while the women scored 311 points for fifth.

A day after winning their respective 100 backstroke titles, senior Samantha Jones and junior Pieter Pelser claimed top marks in the 200 backstroke, with Jones recording a time of 2:03.65 and Pelser swimming to a 1:49.34 time.

The pair garnered additional accolades following the meet as Jones was named the female Swim Athlete of the Year, while Pelser received the award on the men's side. With a pair of wins in the tournament, Carr was named the Diver of the Meet, while diving coach Rich Karban was voted Diving Coach of the Year for the second straight time.

Sophomore Bjorn Schantz placed second in the 1,650 freestyle, completing the trip in 15:53.61, while freshman Brady Lusk cruised to a sixth-place time of 16:08.41. Senior Luke Wilkens placed third in the 200 fly in a time of 1:51.49.

Junior Wendy Peel tallied a consolation first-place time of 2:07.33 in the 200 backstroke while sophomore Marianne Lionell placed fifth in the 100 free with a 52.88 time.

Wright State tallied 852 points as the men's team champion, while UW-Green Bay posted a score of 817 for the women's title.
