Cleveland State Men's Swimming & Diving Finishes Second at Magnus Cup

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State finished as the runner-up at the three-day Magnus Cup after posting 896.5 points. Xavier won the championship with 1076 points and Gannon was third with 740.5 points.

The Vikings had previously won the last seven Magnus Cups prior to finishing second this season.

Cleveland State started the night with four finishers in the top ten of 1650-yard freestyle. Spencer Tussing (15:50.94) placed third, Jake Taulbee (15:53.09) placed fifth, while Jackson Nester (16:01.41) and Connor Green (16:15.05) were ninth and tenth.

Paddy Johnston claimed the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke after touching the wall in 1:46.39.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Nathen Eberhardt finished in fifth place after clocking a time of 45.85. Green won the B-final with a time of 45.63.

Three Green and White swimmers were in the top ten of the 200-yard breaststroke; Griffin Manning (2:03.65) in sixth, Reno James (2:03.94) in eighth, and Tyler Schultze in ninth.

James grabbed a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly after finishing in 1:51.36. Prior to that, Thomas Lundin won the B-final, clocking a 1:53.07.

Cleveland State ended the meet in style by winning the 400-yard freestyle relay with Johnston, Eberhardt, Green, and Tussing as the team put up a time of 2:58.97.

Cleveland State has now concluded the first half of its season and will return to the pool on Friday, January 6 for Senior Night against Southern Indiana.
