Cleveland State Men's Swimming & Diving in Second After Day Two of Magnus Cup

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings remained in second place with one day to go at the Magnus Cup. The meet concludes tomorrow with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.

Xavier paces the meet with 718 points, the Green and White in second with 612.5 points, and Gannon in third with 537.5 points.

"We have made an overhaul shift in training this season and I am very happy with where we are at with Magnus Cup as we head into the final day tomorrow," said head coach Hannah Burandt. "This is preparation for the Horizon League, and we have had some breakthroughs along with aha moments that we will carry into tomorrow."

For the second straight night, the Vikings started with a relay victory as the 200-yard medley relay team of Kenny Thomas, Griffin Manning, Paddy Johnston, and Nathen Eberhardt finished in 1:23.23.

Cleveland State took the eighth through ninth spots of the 400-yard IM with Tyler Schultze (4:06.51), Jake Taulbee (4:018.18), and Manning (4:10.43).

In the 100-yard butterfly, Johnston was the runner-up with a time of 48.22, while Thomas Lundin place eighth with a 49.85.

The Vikings went four through six in the 200-yard freestyle with Spencer Tussing (1:40.22), Connor Green (1:40.05), and Eberhardt (1:40.12).

Manning touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.73 and Blake Fry came in ninth after touching in 56.75.

Johnston made it two straight Green and White victories after winning the 100-yard backstroke with a 48.21. Eberhardt (50.61) and Thomas (50.72) came in fourth and sixth place.

The Green and White capped off the evening with a fourth-place mark in the 800-yard freestyle with Quinn DeGraaf, Eberhardt, Tussing, and Green, clocking a 6:47.97.
