Poletta to Join Vikings Next Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State University head men's and women's swimming & diving coach Paul Graham announced that Dominic Poletta has committed to continuing his collegiate career with the Vikings in the 2018-19 season.

Poletta will join CSU after two standout campaigns at Wright State University. A native of Green, Ohio, he attended high school less than one hour from the Cleveland State campus.

Poletta recently capped his sophomore season with multiple noteworthy efforts at the Horizon League Championships at Cleveland State, as he totaled 54 points as an individual.

Poletta won the 50 freestyle at the League meet (19.74) and was the runner-up in both the 100 freestyle (44.09) and 100 butterfly (47.81). All three of his individual swims were career bests and came in NCAA 'B' qualifying times.

Poletta anchored both of his team's medley relays at the 2018 League meet and also swam on the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams for the Raiders.

In his debut collegiate season, Poletta took bronze in both the 50 freestyle and 100 fly at the 2017 Horizon League Championships and was also among the top 10 in the 100 freestyle. He also swam on WSU's winning 200 freestyle relay squad that year.

As a high school senior at Green, Poletta took runner-up honors in the 50 freestyle at the Division I state championship and was also among the top eight in the 100 fly.

The Cleveland State men's and women's programs both posted their highest point totals since 2013 at the recent HL Championships. The men took second with 665.5 points and trailed the top spot by only 66 points. The Viking women improved two positions from the year prior, taking third with 586 points, and were only seven points out of second place.

Junior Molly McNamara became the second Viking woman to win Horizon League Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Year while Graham became the first CSU coach to win Women's Swimming Coach of the Year from the League.
