Akers Concludes Season at NCAA Zones

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Matt Akers of the Cleveland State University men's swimming & diving team concluded his rookie season Friday afternoon at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at Ohio State's Ron O'Brien Diving Well inside the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

Akers took 34th in the 1-meter competition, scoring 248.55 points. Among those he finished ahead of were a pair of athletes from Power Five schools along with two from the Horizon League.

Akers' highest scoring dive was his second-to-last, a reverse 1.5 somersault 1.5 twist free that earned 46.80 points. He also tallied 43.50 points on his second dive, a back 2.5 somersault tuck.

Akers finished among the top four in both the 1-meter and 3-meter in his inaugural Horizon League Championships. He was the runner-up in the 1-meter event with 301.90 points and finished fourth in the 3-meter, and was the highest scoring freshman in the event, with 315.45 points.
