CLEVELAND, Ohio – Freshman Matt Akers of the Cleveland State University men's swimming & diving team continues his season this week by partaking in the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships.

There are five zone meets spread across the country that allow divers to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Based on performances at the previous NCAA Championship meets, each zone earns a set number of qualifying spots. The men's divers at the Zone C meet are chasing after one of 10 spots available on both the one and three-meter boards.

There are 43 entries in the men's 1-meter and 42 in the 3-meter event. Thirty of the entrants hail from Power Five conferences, with 21 divers in both competitions representing a Big Ten school.

Akers finished second in his first-ever collegiate postseason event, as he took runner-up honors on the 1-meter board at the Horizon League Championships. He scored 301.90 points, marking the second time this season he surpassed the NCAA qualifying standard. Akers had scored 306.40 points on the 1-meter during the Magnus Cup.
