Arslanian and Roden Sweep Weekly Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A pair of student-athletes on the Cleveland State University men's swimming & diving team brought home Horizon League weekly honors in an announcement by the League office Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore D.J. Arslanian was named Horizon League Men's Swimmer of the Week while junior Curtis Roden was selected Men's Diver of the Week by the League office. Arslanian was also tabbed as the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.

Both Vikings played roles in helping Cleveland State to a dual win at Ashland this past weekend. The League honor is the first of Arslanian's career while it is the second-career honor for Roden and first of this season.

Arslanian won two individual events and also swam on a winning relay in helping Cleveland State to a road dual win. Arslanian's first individual event was the 200 butterfly, which he won in 1:54.09, more than 2.75 seconds clear of the runner-up. He then proceeded to win the 100 freestyle in 47.12 seconds, edging out a teammate for the top spot. Arslanian led off CSU's winning 200 free relay by splitting 21.38 to push his quartet into the lead. His split was tied for the fastest among the 28 swimmers in the event.

Roden swept the diving events in helping Cleveland State to a road dual win. He won the 1-meter event with a career-high 295.28 points, fewer than five points off the NCAA Zones standard. He also claimed the 3-meter crown with a season-best 312.30 points, a mark that was fewer than eight points off the Zones threshold.

Arslanian is the second Viking to claim this honor this season, joining junior Jason van der Touw, while Roden is also the second Viking to claim his honor this season, joining freshman Matt Akers.

Cleveland State is taking time off from competition over the semester break and will resume action at home Friday, Jan. 12, as it hosts League foes IUPUI and UIC.
