CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams partake in their biggest in-season meet of the year this weekend as both programs host the sixth annual Magnus Cup.

The meet has continued to grow year after year, and this year is no exception. There will be 10 men's teams and 15 women's teams competing, both of which represent Magnus Cup records.

Two institutions will be making their Magnus Cup debuts—John Carroll will be making the shortest ever trip to the Cup from an opposing team while Simon Fraser, located outside of Vancouver, British Columbia, will be making the farthest ever trip to compete in the Cup. Both Xavier programs and women's squads from Duquesne, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Youngstown State will continue their streak of competing in every iteration of the event.

A full schedule of events is listed at the bottom of this article. All traditional individual swimming events and relays will be held at the meet in addition to four non-traditional events (50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 100 IM). Both 1-meter and 3-meter diving will be held as well during the course of the weekend.

Swimming prelims will begin at 9:00 a.m. each day. Finals will commence at 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 3:00 p.m. Sunday. Diving is set to take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday with preliminaries followed by finals. There will be A, B, C and D finals in men's and women's individual swimming events with the top 20 swimmers scoring in each event. All relays and the 1650 freestyle will be contested as timed finals.

Live results from the meet will be available on the Meet Mobile app ($). Also, updates will be provided on Twitter @Viking_SwimDive (twitter.com/Viking_SwimDive). Full results will be posted on the swimming pages of CSU's website at the end of each day of competition.

The Cleveland State men's team has won four of the previous five Magnus Cups, including each of the past three. The Vikings finished 288 points ahead of second-place Xavier at last year's event. However, the Musketeers defeated the Vikings in dual action earlier this season, so CSU will be challenged in its attempt to defend the crown. The CSU men are coming off a dual win over fellow Horizon League member Green Bay, as the Vikings came from behind on the final event to claim the win. Junior Jason van der Touw earned his second weekly honor of the season after that meet while freshman Matt Akers earned League honors for his sweep of the diving events.

The Cleveland State women's best finish at the Cup is second, which they have achieved twice. The Viking women were fourth of 14 teams last year. CSU comes into the weekend with some momentum after sweeping its home-opening double dual over Green Bay (188-165) and Marshall (184-166). Junior Molly McNamara has claimed a pair of weekly accolades from the League this season. Freshman Gracyn McQueary won the 100 breaststroke last time out and led a CSU sweep of the top five spots in the event.

The following teams are scheduled to compete at the 2017 Magnus Cup: Akron (women only), California University of Pennsylvania (women only), Cleveland State, University of the Cumberlands, Duquesne (women only), Fairmont State, George Washington, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, John Carroll, Saginaw Valley State, Saint Francis (Pa.) (women only), Simon Fraser, West Virginia Tech, Xavier and Youngstown State (women only).

An all-weekend ticket for the Magnus Cup will be $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and children. An all-day ticket will be $7 for adults and $5 for seniors or children. Heat sheets will be available for $2 per session. CSU students will be admitted free with a valid Viking Card.
